A business delegation from the Taiwan Nonwoven Fabrics Industry Association (TNFIA), which is visiting India from March 27 to March 31 as part of the Tamil Nadu–Taiwan Technical Textile Partnership Summit, had meetings with textile stakeholders in Tamil Nadu on Friday.
The CII Tamil Nadu State Textile Panel organised business meetings to explore joint ventures and technical collaborations between the TNFIA members and industry stakeholders in Tamil Nadu. There were direct interactions, partnership discussions and opportunities for collaboration in the non-woven, automotive, and non-leather footwear sectors.
G.R. Gopikumar, convenor of the CII Tamil Nadu Textile Panel, said Tamil Nadu held a dominant position in the automotive and leather sectors, accounting for 35 % – 40 % of India’s footwear manufacturing and nearly 45 % of the country’s footwear exports. The current leather to non-leather footwear ratio stood at 90:10. However, with global demand steadily shifting towards non-leather footwear, this segment presented a significant growth opportunity for the State.
The objective of the Taiwan delegation was to explore opportunities in the automotive and non-leather footwear sectors and to assess the potential for establishing a complete value chain ecosystem in Tamil Nadu from fibre to non-woven materials and finished components. The delegation, comprising leading manufacturers of non-woven fabrics and technical textiles, had evinced interest in setting up manufacturing facilities in India through joint ventures and collaborations with Indian partners, recognising the growing potential of the Indian footwear market.
