On Thursday, Tamil Nadu signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four global institutions spanning global capability centres (GCCs), research and development, advanced manufacturing, and higher education. The projects are expected to generate more than 2,920 direct and indirect jobs in the State.The agreements were signed between Guidance Tamil Nadu and the companies in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.Jobs boostAmong the announcements, Swiss insurance major Chubb and German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex will establish their first Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and research and development (R&D) centres in Tamil Nadu. The facilities, which will be located in Chennai, are expected to create 1,220 high-skilled jobs, with Chubb generating around 220 jobs and Nordex about 1,000.Academic LandmarkIn a significant development for the State’s higher education sector, the University of Western Australia (UWA) will establish its India campus in Chennai under the UGC (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations, 2023. According to the government, the campus will be the first international university campus to be established in Tamil Nadu.Korean InvestmentThe State also secured a ₹300-crore investment from South Korean auto-component manufacturer MotiveLink, which will set up a manufacturing facility at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Pillaipakkam, Kancheepuram district. The project is expected to create around 1,500 jobs.The investment follows Industries Minister Keerthana’s visit to South Korea in June 2026 as part of Tamil Nadu’s overseas investment outreach. Industry sources said Andhra Pradesh had also been competing for the project, with Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh also meeting representatives of MotiveLink during his visit to South Korea.Welcoming the investment, Industries Minister Keerthana said the MotiveLink project would strengthen Tamil Nadu’s electric vehicle ecosystem while creating quality employment opportunities.“This investment strengthens the State’s electric vehicle ecosystem, creates quality jobs for youth and reaffirms the confidence that global companies have in Tamil Nadu’s future,” she said.The latest round of investments reinforces Tamil Nadu’s strategy of attracting high-value investments across knowledge-intensive sectors such as GCCs and R&D, while simultaneously expanding its manufacturing base and positioning Chennai as a destination for international higher education.Published on July 30, 2026
