Athens traffic police have continued their road safety campaign, carrying out nearly 26,000 breathalyzer tests between June 22 and the early hours of Monday, leading to 217 drink-driving violations and the detention of 10 motorists who were found to be well above the legal alcohol limit.

The detained drivers recorded blood alcohol levels exceeding 0.60 mg/l, placing them significantly over the threshold and resulting in their immediate arrest.

The proportion of drivers testing positive for alcohol remained notably low, with just 217 of the 25,938 motorists checked, or 0.84%, found to be in violation.

Alongside drink-driving enforcement, police confirmed a further 7,794 traffic violations during the same period. These included speeding, failing to wear a helmet, using a mobile phone while driving, running red lights, and driving without a valid license.
