AI chips produced in China could take nearly 80 percent of the domestic Chinese market this year, according to TrendForce figures, amid geopolitical troubles affecting imports and a drive within the country to boost tech self-reliance.

The figures emphasise China’s progress in developing viable alternatives to the Nvidia and AMD chips that dominate AI data centres in other parts of the world.

The combined market share of Nvidia, AMD and other foreign suppliers is expected to fall to 21 percent in China this year, from 34 percent last year, according to Taipei-based TrendForce.
