Tea prices were marginally up at Coonoor auctions last week, thanks to better activity from internal and upcountry buyers.Traders said the demand for orthodox teas was on the higher side in Sale 26 and attributed it to the normalisation of issues in West Asia following the recent truce in the region.The improved buying was reflected in higher sales volumes with the leaf category witnessing 95 per cent sales out of the offered quantity of 15,42,971 kg, whereas it was 92 per cent in dust out of the offered quantity of 475,483 kg.In CTC leaf, the high-priced teas were dearer by ₹4 to ₹5 and more at times in line with quality occasionally some lots sold lower by ₹4 to ₹5. The better liquoring sorts were steady to lower by ₹2 to ₹3.High-priced dusts rule easyThe better medium sorts were lower by ₹1 to ₹2. Generally, fair demand was noticed in the overall CTC leaf sale.In leaf orthodox, the primary whole leaf grades had fair demand and sold dearer by ₹4 to ₹5. The brokens also had fair demand and sold dearer by ₹4 to ₹5. The secondaries and fannings were dearer by ₹2 to ₹3.In dust CTC, high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts were generally easier by ₹3 to ₹4, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹2 to ₹3. The better medium sorts were barely steady to occasionally dearer by ₹1 to ₹2.The primary orthodox dust grades were lower by ₹5 to ₹6, and more at times.
