A better enquiry from upcountry buyers and exporters has lifted tea prices at Coonoor auctions, witnessing higher sales percentage.According to traders, there is a good demand from upcountry buyers for South Indian teas in Sale 23, as North Indian offerings are selling at higher prices. This, coupled with lower offerings in the auction platform due to intermittent rains, has pushed prices further.Global Tea auctioneer said that the offered quantity in leaf was 11,23,835 kg, with a 95 per cent sales, while for dust varieties, it is 93 per cent out of the offered quantity of 3,62,717 kg.In CTC leaf, the high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts had fair demand and sold dearer by ₹3 to 4. The better medium sorts bolders and brokens sold barely steady to occasionally dearer by ₹2 to3. The mediums and plainer sorts bolders and brokens sold fully firm to dearer by ₹1 to 2 and more, whilst the fannings had good demand and sold dearer by ₹3 to 4 and more at times in line with quality.Good demand for CTC leafGenerally a good demand was noticed in the overall CTC leaf sale.In leaf orthodox, the primary whole leaf grades were generally lower by ₹5 to 6. The brokens were lower by ₹2 to 3 with some withdrawals. The secondaries were also lower by ₹2 to 3.High-priced teas in CTC dust better liquoring sorts had fair demand and sold fully firm to dearer by ₹5 to 6. The better medium sorts also sold dearer by ₹2 to 3.
