Kochi tea auction market continues to witness good enquiries from overseas buyers especially for orthodox grades, thanks to easing of West Asian crisis.Traders said that there has been a good buying in Sale 27 from CIS and West Asia which is expected to continue following the normalisation of war related issues in the Gulf region.The orthodox tea market witnessed a 92 per cent sales out of the offered quantity of 2,80,925 kg. The market for whole leaf and brokens was firm to dearer, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart& Figgis said.In CTC dust, the market for good liquoring teas was steady to firm and sometimes dearer by Rs1 to Rs2. The demand was strong with a 89 per cent sales out of the offered quantity of 7,78,264 kg. All blenders together absorbed 70 per cent of the total CTC quantity sold. Anil George, president of Tea Trade Association of Cochin said that the market witnessed good general demand, with popular and good liquoring varieties selling at fully firm levels. Local bazaar demand remained moderate, whereas exporters operated cautiously, particularly for blacker varieties.Published on July 3, 2026
