Apple has raised its laptop and tablet prices, days after outgoing chief executive Tim Cook warned the move was “unavoidable” due to surging memory chip costs.

The significant price rises are a sign that even the largest tech companies are being forced to pass their costs on to consumers.

The MacBook Pro with 1 terabyte of storage rose to $1,999 (£1,514) from $1,699 on Apple’s US store, up 17 percent, while in the UK, the new entry-level Neo laptop rose from £599 to £699, also a 17 percent increase.
