The Yankees' offense, already down several key players, completed Sunday's game without Jazz Chisholm Jr. Paul Rutherford / Imagn ImagesJune 28, 2026 Updated 9:34 pm EDTBOSTON — It has been a frustrating and embarrassing weekend for the New York Yankees. On Friday, Boston Red Sox starter Payton Tolle carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. On Saturday, Red Sox starter Jake Bennett had a no-hitter into the fifth inning. And on Sunday, Red Sox starter Sonny Gray continued the trend with his own dominant performance.Emotions on New York’s side boiled over on Sunday, when Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was ejected in the top of the sixth after arguing a strikeout on a checked swing. Chisholm was upset that home plate umpire Adam Hamari rang him up, rather than appeal to third base umpire Clint Vondrak for help.

Both Yankees manager Aaron Boone and first base coach Dan Fiorito sprinted to Chisholm to get between him and Hamari, but there was nothing they could do to prevent the second baseman from slamming his helmet into the dirt. Hamari actually missed Chisholm’s helmet toss while arguing with Boone, so it was first base umpire Todd Tichenor who ejected the player. While it was reasonable for Chisholm to express displeasure with the call, it was not a smart decision. The Yankees’ offense is already down Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Trent Grisham. Offense has been hard to come by for the Yankees, and losing their leadoff hitter in a game to avoid a sweep against their rivals is less than ideal.Anthony Volpe replaced Chisholm in the lineup, while José Caballero slid over from shortstop to second base. This story will be updated.
