Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt is set to leave Samoa on Monday (today) for New Zealand for a routine medical check-up, according to the Government Press Secretariat.
The government said the Prime Minister is expected to return after one week.
During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Molio’o will serve as Acting Prime Minister.
This will be the Prime Minister’s third medical-related trip overseas since he was sworn in as Samoa’s eighth Prime Minister nine months ago.
His last medical trip was in April 2026, when he was medically evacuated to New Zealand after the Government said he required further checks relating to heart and lung concerns.
