Ukraine will need to revise a number of provisions of its Constitution as part of its future accession to the European Union and the process of aligning national legislation with EU law.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk said this during a television broadcast, according to Ukrinform.

"As Ukraine moves toward the European Union, it will have to review a large number of its legal provisions, just as other candidate countries have done, in order to incorporate a substantial body of EU-related legislation into its legal framework. By joining the European Union, we must understand that we will transfer certain powers to its institutions. This must also be reflected in Ukraine's Constitution," Stefanchuk said.

He added that, after the war, Ukraine would also need to reconsider a number of issues related to the national security and defense system, the role of the Armed Forces in the state, and guarantees of citizens' rights and freedoms.

According to Stefanchuk, any future amendments to the Constitution should be the subject of broad public discussion.
