The Coimbatore district administration has begun updating the Aadhaar and other mandatory details of workers registered under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), ahead of the rollout of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025 (VB-G RAM G Act) from July 1.Officials said the exercise is under way across all 12 rural development blocks in the district — Annur, Karamadai, Periyanaickenpalayam, Sarcarsamakulam, Madukkarai, Sulur, Sultanpet, Thondamuthur, Anaimalai, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi North and Pollachi South — to update beneficiary records in accordance with the revised implementation guidelines.The verification is aimed at preparing an updated digital database of workers before the new law comes into force, which envisages technology-based monitoring and biometric authentication for implementation.Coimbatore district has 79,660 workers enrolled under MGNREGS, who are currently paid a daily wage of ₹336.
