A 60-year-old British man wanted by Spanish authorities was arrested on Saturday in Ioannina, northwestern Greece, police said.

The arrest was carried out on the basis of a European warrant issued by Spain, where the suspect is wanted on charges related to money laundering and participation in a criminal organization. The offenses carry a maximum prison sentence of up to nine years.

The man is expected to appear before the competent public prosecutor as extradition proceedings get underway.
