A tanker that became adrift in the northern Aegean Sea due to mechanical failure was safely towed to a Turkish port early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The Maltese-flagged vessel YM Jupiter broke down in sea waters northeast of the Greek islet Psathoura, near the island of Alonissos.
The ship, operated by a 17-member crew of Turkish nationals, is reportedly carrying approximately 5,000 metric tons of petroleum products.
During the incident, the Hellenic Coast Guard’s Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED) urged nearby vessels to remain on alert and prepared to assist if necessary. [AMNA]
