A 43-year-old woman who was seriously injured by a gunshot at a shooting range in central Crete on Saturday morning has died from her wounds, the hospital where she was admitted said.

Kostas Dandoulakis, director of Venizeleio Hospital, said the victim died while undergoing operation to treat her serious head and neck injuries inflicted by a gun.

According to preliminary information from police sources, the woman went to the shooting range in Malevizi for the first time this morning and received temporary licence to shoot. Her injury occurred in the presence of the person in charge of the shooting range, the same sources said.

Police is investigating the causes of incident which include the possibility of an accidental gun discharge or suicide.
