Msunduzi ratepayers raise urgent governance concerns with National Treasury

The Msunduzi Association of Residents, Ratepayers and Civics (MARRC) took its concerns about the municipality’s financial management to the National Treasury on Friday.

A delegation from MARRC met with KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Finance, Francois Rodgers, on Thursday.

Rodgers said the delegation raised issues relating to alleged shortcomings in public participation processes concerning the 2024/25 audited annual report, the 2026/27 tariffs and charges, the draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP), and the municipal budget.

Anthony Waldhausen, CEO of MARRC, also raised concerns about the alleged exclusion of ratepayer submissions, transparency, and accountability in municipal decision-making, and affordability pressures linked to tariff increases.
