Msunduzi Municipality municipality request the public to stop criticising it for failing to answer SCOPA questions in Cape Town.

The Msunduzi Municipality has called for calm and restraint following a barrage of criticism from residents after failing to respond to questions from Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) regarding its alleged mismanagement of the city.

Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla, Municipal Manager (MM) Felani Mndebele, and Chief Financial Officer Nelisiwe Ngcobo were among 16 city officials who flew to Cape Town and booked overnight accommodation for their appearance before SCOPA on May 27.

MPs subjected them to interrogation about the state of the city and its alleged mishandling of allegations against the Water and Sanitation acting manager, Fathima Mota, who was rehired shortly after she had resigned from the same position.

Mndebele and Ngcobo, who was an acting manager before Mndebele was hired permanently to the position on August 1, 2023, struggled to answer questions directed to them.
