A 64-year-old Samoan father has been given a second chance at life after undergoing successful heart surgery in Fiji.

Aki Ah Dar, from Faatoia, travelled to Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospitals in Nadi, Fiji, with his family, after being referred through a partnership between the Government of Samoa and the hospital.

Ah Dar arrived in Fiji on 17 May and underwent coronary artery bypass surgery two days later after doctors diagnosed him with severe blockage in three major heart arteries.

Speaking after the operation, Ah Dar said he was grateful for the care he received and thankful for the support of his family and the medical team.

He thanked Dr Sanjeev Khulbey and Dr Omar, as well as the team of doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who cared for him throughout his treatment and recovery.
