Eskom achieves 406 days without load shedding amid stable winter power supply.
Eskom says South Africa’s power system remains “stable and adequately supplied” as winter demand rises, with the utility crediting improved generation performance, reduced breakdowns, and lower reliance on diesel-fired power for sustained grid stability.
In its latest Power System Update 1, released Friday, Eskom said operational recovery efforts continue to deliver “tangible results,” with system reserves and available capacity remaining sufficient to meet peak winter demand.
“Eskom's operational recovery continues to deliver tangible results, with the power system remaining stable and adequately supplied as winter demand intensifies,” the utility said.
A key indicator of improved performance is the Energy Availability Factor (EAF), which has risen to 63.81%, up from 58.31% in the same period last year. Eskom said this reflects “sustained progress under Eskom's turnaround strategy,” driven by fewer unplanned breakdowns across its generation fleet.
