The new member of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial legislature representing the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Petros Mthandeni Ngubane who was sworn-in on Friday morning. The legislature is now back to its full complement of 80 members.
Former uMzinyathi District Municipality mayor Petros Mthandeni Ngubane was on Friday sworn in as a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature (MPL), filling a vacancy in the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) caucus.
Ngubane takes up the seat following the death of IFP MPL Jerich Nkwanyana earlier this month.
His swearing-in ceremony was conducted in accordance with Section 107 of the Constitution, which requires members of provincial legislatures to swear or affirm allegiance to the Republic and obedience to the Constitution before assuming office.
In terms of Schedule 2 of the Constitution, members appointed to fill vacancies may take the oath before the Presiding Officer of the Legislature.
