Huawei Technologies Co made another bold step in expanding the price boundary of China's smart vehicle industry by partnering with local car maker JAC to officially launch the S800 Grand Design edition on Thursday evening.

Priced from 1.38 million yuan ($204,000), the flagship sedan under the premium smart vehicle brand, Maextro, is a definitive push into the ultra-high-end automotive segment, Huawei Executive Director Richard Yu Chengdong said.

The launch comes as Maextro reports robust momentum: 19,000 units of the S800 have been delivered over the past 13 months, securing the top spot in China's million-yuan luxury car sales for nine consecutive months. The Grand Design variant is positioned to solidify that lead, according to Huawei.

Yu, who also heads Huawei's terminal business group, emphasized that the vehicle is engineered for Level 3 plus autonomous driving, powered by its latest Qiankun ADS 5.0 advanced driving system.
