The Union of Democrats "For Lithuania" has presented its three ministerial candidates to President Gitanas Nausėda, party leader Virginijus Sinkevičius revealed on Friday.

Seimas member Kęstutis Mažeika has been put forward for agriculture minister, Lukas Savickas for energy minister, and Linas Kukuraitis for health minister. Virginijus Sinkevičius said the candidates had been agreed with prime minister-designate Mindaugas Sinkevičius, who will need to confirm the nominations.

"I received no objections, these are well-known people, political professionals, team players who think in terms of state interests," Virginijus Sinkevičius said of the president's reaction, adding that he heard no criticism of the candidates from either Mindaugas Sinkevičius or Nausėda.

The president expressed an expectation that continuity of work would be ensured and that the incoming ministers' teams and deputy ministers would be professionals in their respective fields.

Kukuraitis is a former minister of social security and labour.
