A rathe low-key session at Athinon Avenue on Thursday offered observers a mixed picture, with blue chips mostly heading lower as traders continue to cash in on recent gains and to bet on a short-term move downward for local stocks. With just three sessions left until the end of the year’s first half, several investors are engaging on window dressing, opting for selective moves that should be concluded by next Tuesday.

The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,451.62 points, shedding 0.78% from Wednesday’s 2,470.95 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index contracted 0.84%, ending at 6,216.60 points.

The banks index declined 1.81%, as Eurobank parted with 2.44%, National conceded 2.40%, Bank of Cyprus gave up 2.32%. Piraeus dropped 1.32%, Optima lost 1.18% and Alpha dipped 0.48%. Viohalco lowered 7.33%, while Aktor Holdings advanced 3.09%.

In total, 50 stocks reported gains, 55 sustained losses and 19 remained unchanged.
