Temperatures in the UK hit another record high today – reaching 36.4C and breaking Wednesday’s record for the hottest ever June day.

NHS trusts have declared critical incidents, a hosepipe ban is in force in Kent, schools are closing early and the Met Office warned of “significant disruption to daily life”.

The red extreme heat warning for Southern England has been extended into Friday – although the zone where there’s a potential danger to life is reduced.

The amber warning is shifting to cover more of the East of England, with thunderstorm warnings issued across the rest of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. South East England also now has an amber warning for extreme heat on Saturday.
