Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Monday Ubani, has warned that the newly passed State Police Bill may fail to achieve its objectives unless Nigeria strengthens its local government system and establishes robust safeguards against abuse.

Ubani made the observation while reacting to the passage of the State Police Bill by the Senate following its earlier approval by the House of Representatives.

He described the development as a historic milestone in Nigeria’s constitutional and security evolution, noting that it marked a significant shift towards a more federal and community-driven security framework.

“The passage of the State Police Bill represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s quest to create a more responsive, efficient and community-oriented security framework,” Ubani said.
