The UK announced a new support package worth nearly £290 million ($381.6 million) for Ukraine’s recovery and energy security during the Ukraine Recovery Conference.According to Suspilne on Thursday, speaking at the conference in Gdańsk, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said Britain would continue supporting Ukraine both during the war and throughout its reconstruction.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official.“A just and lasting peace is urgent and non-negotiable. But Ukraine needs long-term support both to overcome the conflict and to rebuild in the future,” Cooper said.According to the UK government, the package will support Ukraine’s energy sector, businesses, education, and justice system.The largest portion of the package, £210 million ($277 million), will fund an agreement between British nuclear fuel company Urenco and Ukraine’s state nuclear energy operator Energoatom.The deal aims to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security by ensuring nuclear fuel supplies, as Russia continues targeting the country’s critical energy infrastructure.British officials said the agreement would also support the UK economy, noting that Urenco employs more than 650 people in Britain, while its Chester facility supports more than 4,500 jobs across the country’s supply chain.Support for justice reforms and reconstructionThe funding will also finance reforms to Ukraine’s justice system, including measures to strengthen accountability for war crimes, accelerate court proceedings, and combat corruption.
