BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to share their complaints during a live interview15:57, 25 Jun 2026Updated 15:59, 25 Jun 2026Viewers of BBC Breakfast were left unimpressed with what they witnessed.‌The hit morning programme has recently focused much of its news coverage on the UK's unprecedented heatwave.‌Jon Kay was notably absent from the studio as he reported on the rising temperatures, while Sally Nugent remained on the iconic red sofa. However, one live interview left viewers feeling particularly frustrated.‌During Wednesday's (June 24) episode, Jon spoke to Lauren Bennett from the RSPCA, who discussed how dogs can remain safe in the heat."Just like people, [the heat] can be fatal [to a dog], which is why we tell people to change their behaviour because pets are completely under our control, so the responsibility is on us," Lauren began to explain.‌"In terms of symptoms, heavy breathing is the first thing that starts. [This then] progresses into vomiting, diarrhea, and very sadly, can cause seizures, collapse and death," the guest continued, but some fans were soon left distracted. As the interview continued in Richmond upon Thames, some eagle-eyed viewers noticed a dog causing havoc in the background. The dog was seen swimming in the lake directly behind Jon and Lauren, before picking a duck up in its mouth as it exited the water. The duck quickly tried to fly away, with the dog rushing back into the water to chase it.‌Viewers weren't impressed that the owner had let their pet roam free in the lake, with one person writing on Instagram: "Poor duck that's really upsetting."Another added: "That's awful. I'm shocked at how many people think this is funny? That poor duck!!"Content cannot be displayed without consent‌A third said: "That poor duck... how is this going on behind this interview with no one doing anything about it. Absolute disgrace."A fourth viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: "That is b***** disgusting," with someone else writing: "That's not funny, that's absolutely outrageous."A Richmond local called Vivi went on to comment underneath the post, saying: "Our lovely duck Lupita is in a bad way, very injured and we will try to catch her and take her to vets. Her leg may be broken. Irresponsible owner of this dog is on my stories - we are trying to find out who she is to report her."Article continues belowThe borough of Richmond's official Instagram page later shared an update on Lupita the duck, writing: "We're really pleased to share that, thanks to the incredible efforts of Richmond local @veevs, along with Mark Edwards OBE and James (@lsupco), Lupita has now been safely rescued and is receiving the care she needs to recover. It's great news and a good reminder to keep dogs on leads."BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
