Nearly 90,000 students competed for about 69,000 university places in Greece for the 2026-27 academic year, according to Education Ministry data released after nationwide exam results.
A total of 89,032 candidates sat the Panhellenic Examinations, with 75,109 coming from general high schools and 13,923 from vocational schools.
The results showed persistently low numbers of top scorers overall, though Physics and Latin stood out.
In Physics, 30.06% of candidates scored above 18 out of 20, a sharp rise from last year’s 9.39%, while 22.65% achieved similar marks in Latin.
By contrast, top performance remained rare in Modern Greek language and Ancient Greek.
