The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced that the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is only possible via routes designated and declared by the Islamic Republic of Iran, stating that any other route introduced without coordination with Tehran is considered invalid by Iran.
In a statement, the IRGC emphasized that “the only authorized route for passing through the Strait of Hormuz is the route declared by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” and any transit outside this framework is deemed a “security risk.”
The statement also warned that vessels attempting to pass through this strategic waterway without coordination with Iran will face confrontational measures.
This stance was articulated one day after Oman announced the establishment of a “temporary” maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz, urging ships to use the new path for the time being to navigate the waterway.
Concurrently, certain reports indicate covert U.S. cooperation in guiding a portion of commercial ships toward this new route, a development that has not been officially confirmed by Washington thus far.
