LifestyleFood & DrinkCoffeeBeat the heatwave with this homemade no blender iced coffee - a Starbucks-inspired dupe that costs a fraction of the price and tastes even better12:44, 25 Jun 2026The UK is firmly in the grip of a sweltering heatwave, with temperatures nudging close to 40C in certain parts of the country. Where I'm based in London, it's been sitting around 35C and making life thoroughly miserable. When your morning kicks off at 27C and only climbs higher, my usual hot coffee simply isn't an option. Fortunately, I know how to whip up a spot-on replica of one of Starbucks' most beloved iced coffees - the Iced Brown Sugar Oat Shaken Espresso. In my view, the homemade version is actually superior. It costs a fraction of the price and requires no specialist syrups or blender. It's also far more coffee-forward and considerably less sickly sweet.Better still, it's remarkably simple to prepareAll you need is coffee, ice, sugar, milk and a cocktail shaker.IngredientsTwo tsp light brown sugarTwo shots of espresso - I use around half a cup of coffee brewed in a Moka pot3⁄4 cup of oat milk (or whichever milk you prefer)One cup of iceMethodBrew your coffee however you prefer. I use a single moka pot which produces around half a cup of robust espresso.Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, then pour your oat milk on top.You can add a dash of cinnamon at this point if you fancy it.In a separate jug or cup, place the two teaspoons of brown sugar and pour the freshly brewed coffee over it, stirring until the sugar has fully dissolved.Article continues belowPour your coffee and sugar mixture over the oat milk and ice, secure the lid firmly and shake vigorously for around two minutes.Add more ice to a tall glass and pour the coffee over it.If you're feeling particularly indulgent, top with some whipped cream or a sprinkle of cinnamon before popping in a straw and savouring your delicious caffeinated treat.Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.StarbucksFoodHeatwaveCoffee
