The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has recorded a notable improvement in the 2026 Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings, moving up to the 401–600 band from 1001–1500+ in 2025.
The rankings assessed 1,646 universities across 116 countries and territories and were released this week at the Global Sustainable Development Congress in Jakarta, Indonesia. The event brought together higher education leaders and partners focused on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
DUT attributed the improved performance to its continued implementation of the ENVISION2030 strategic framework, which guides the institution’s drive to become a creative, distinctive and impactful university.
Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Thandwa Mthembu leads the institution’s long-term vision, which emphasises research, innovation, teaching, engagement and partnerships that contribute to sustainable development.
