Nadia Amod of Everest Heights, Verulam, turned a lifelong passion for cooking into a successful home-based venture after spending a decade working in healthcare.

Some children dream of becoming doctors, teachers or pilots. For Nadia Amod, the dream was always centred around the kitchen.

The 31-year-old from Everest Heights, Verulam, recalls spending her childhood captivated by cooking programmes while her peers watched cartoons. Long before she knew where life would take her, she was fascinated by ingredients, techniques and cookware.

"I remember being about seven years old and calling my mum at work asking her to buy me a Bauer Pro non-stick frying pan," she recalls with a smile.

Although Nadia always envisioned a future in food, her career initially followed a different path. She studied nursing before qualifying as a paramedic through Netcare and spent the next decade working in healthcare. It was only after leaving the profession to spend more time at home with her young child that she found the opportunity to revisit her first love – cooking.
