GEK TERNA and German defence manufacturer Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbHA have signed a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Greece’s defence industrial base and developing new capabilities to support the armed forces.The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides in the fourth quarter of 2025 and is now taking a binding, long-term form, laying the groundwork for a broader industrial partnership with significant domestic value added.The cooperation leverages GEK TERNA’s position in critical infrastructure, energy and complex industrial systems in Southeast Europe, combined with Rheinmetall’s internationally recognised portfolio of defence technologies and ground systems.According to the companies, the agreement aims to establish a stronger industrial base in Greece through technology transfer and the development of specialised capabilities designed to enhance the country’s defence autonomy.The partnership is also expected to support the development of a more resilient and competitive domestic defence ecosystem.The two groups will combine expertise and capabilities to meet modern operational requirements, developing integrated high-quality and reliable defence solutions.The focus includes support for the Greek armed forces through new tactical ground systems, as well as upgrades to existing equipment with full lifecycle technical support.The partners aim to establish a long-term framework allowing for the sustained maintenance of critical defence capabilities at a high level of operational readiness.Particular emphasis is also placed on strengthening domestic industrial participation.The agreement foresees the systematic development of industrial capabilities within facilities of the Hellenic Armed Forces, with the active involvement of Greek small and medium-sized enterprises, which will be integrated into production and support supply chains.The objective is to generate added value for the Greek economy, develop specialised human capital and enhance national operational autonomy in a sector of growing strategic importance for Europe and NATO.
