The Kremlin is attempting to justify its own aggressive intentions toward European countries by spreading false claims that NATO and the EU are allegedly preparing an attack on Russia.

According to Ukrinform, the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council reported this on Telegram.

The CCD noted that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko recently claimed that NATO and the EU were allegedly “preparing for a military confrontation with Russia by 2030,” comparing Western actions to Operation Barbarossa, Nazi Germany’s plan for the invasion of the Soviet Union during World War II.

The CCD stressed that the use of this historical reference is aimed primarily at a domestic Russian audience.

“By artificially equating the modern defensive NATO alliance with the Third Reich, the Kremlin seeks to mobilize Russian society and mentally prepare the population for possible participation in military operations against European states,” the analysts said.
