LAWGAN added that impunity for perpetrators would only encourage further attacks and erode public confidence in the justice system.
The Law Graduates Association of Nigeria has condemned the recent wave of xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals in South Africa, urging the government, the African Union and the international community to take urgent action to prevent further violence and protect African migrants.
The association expressed concern over what it described as recurring attacks on foreign nationals, particularly African migrants, saying the incidents undermine the ideals of African unity, regional cooperation, human dignity and the rule of law.
In a statement signed by its President and Public Relations Officer, Kayode Bello and Ojo Clement respectively, LAWGAN denounced all forms of xenophobia, discrimination and violence directed at individuals because of their nationality, ethnicity or place of origin.
The association said reports of intimidation, physical assaults, destruction of businesses, forced displacement and loss of lives continued to emerge despite repeated calls for lasting solutions to the crisis.
