According to him, many migrants live in fear because they believe these groups have become emboldened by the absence of strong government intervention.
The Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA) has accused the South African government of a lack of commitment to combating xenophobia in the country, alleging that authorities have consistently failed to take decisive action against all the known anti-foreigner groups despite their activities being widely known and publicly documented.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with SaharaReporters, NUSA’S spokesperson Akindele Olunloyo, accused the South African government of allowing groups that target African migrants to operate openly without facing meaningful legal consequences.
According to him, the continued existence and activities of such groups have created the impression that authorities are either unwilling or unable to confront them.
He argued that the situation had fuelled growing suspicions among migrant communities that elements within the state may be tolerating, enabling, or turning a blind eye to actions that threaten foreign nationals living in South Africa.
