A SaharaReporters review of data published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has shown that petrol sold for as high as ₦1,722 per litre in May 2026, further deepening concerns over the rising cost of living across Nigeria.

According to the data, petrol sold at the highest price in Edo State, where consumers paid as high as ₦1,722 per litre. This was followed by Bauchi State at ₦1,715 per litre, while the price stood at ₦1,698 per litre in Benue State.

The states with the lowest petrol prices were Adamawa at ₦1,469 per litre, Katsina at ₦1,470 per litre, and Sokoto at ₦1,489 per litre.
