Bern also reaffirm committmment to US-made Partriot purchase

Switzerland is launching negotiations with France, Israel, and South Korea to purchase a second missile defence system while reaffirming its commitment to the US-made Patriot programme.

“Given the deteriorating security situation, Switzerland must be able to quickly defend itself against remote attacks,” the government said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Initial information gathered up to the end of May indicates that the systems from these manufacturers generally meet military requirements and offer the best cost-effectiveness,” the statement reads.

Authorities framed the decision as a structural shift toward “resilience and redundancy in critical defence infrastructure,” stating that “a second system would reduce reliance on a single supplier and supply chain, thereby enhancing security in this area.”
