According to him, Nigeria is not under military rule and should not operate in a manner that suggests citizens must be subjected to excessive security measures simply to gain access to a court of law.

Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has criticised the heavy deployment of security personnel at the Federal High Court in Abuja during proceedings involving activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, describing the development as an alarming display of militarisation that has no place in a democratic society.

Adeyanju, in a statement issued on Wednesday, condemned the presence of operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), police officers, and other security personnel around the court premises, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence in the independence of the judiciary and create an atmosphere of intimidation.

According to him, Nigeria is not under military rule and should not operate in a manner that suggests citizens must be subjected to excessive security measures simply to gain access to a court of law.

“The heavy deployment of DSS operatives, police officers, and other security personnel at the Federal High Court, Abuja, is a spectacle that has no place in a democratic society,” Adeyanju said.
