Oman announced that, in coordination with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a temporary maritime route has been established to facilitate the passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. This measure follows persistent disruptions to regional shipping in the wake of the recent war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Oman’s state news agency reported that vessels intending to transit the Strait of Hormuz must complete the necessary coordination with the IMO and Omani authorities.

This decision was announced just hours after Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, the head of Iran’s negotiating delegation, and Abbas Araghchi, the Islamic Republic’s foreign minister, traveled to Muscat. Concurrently, Iran and Oman issued a joint statement emphasizing the preservation of the Strait of Hormuz as a “safe and open” waterway for international shipping.

The two countries also announced the formation of a joint committee to review the future management of the Strait of Hormuz and the fees for services provided in this waterway. At the same time, the statement reaffirmed the “sovereignty and sovereign rights” of Iran and Oman over their respective territorial waters in the Strait of Hormuz.
