The outcome of the recently concluded Enugu North Senatorial by-election did not come as a surprise to keen political observers who closely followed the events leading up to the poll.
Elections are rarely won on election day alone; they are often the culmination of months of strategic planning, grassroots engagement, effective mobilization, and public acceptance.
In the case of the Enugu North Senatorial by-election, the overwhelming victory recorded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ikeje Israel Asogwa, was the product of deliberate preparation, hard work, and widespread support across the zone.
Long before the election date was announced, the APC in Enugu State had begun laying the groundwork for what it considered a crucial electoral contest. The by-election was particularly significant as it was the first major election the party would be contesting in the state following the defection of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and other prominent political leaders from the crisis-ridden Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The party’s preparations gained greater momentum immediately after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the guidelines for party primaries. APC’s decision to field Ikeje Israel Asogwa, a respected public administrator and result-oriented leader, proved to be a game-changing move.
