Ten years ago Britain voted to leave the EU, one of the most significant political decisions in modern British history.

The consequences of Brexit continue to be debated. Supporters argue it restored Britain’s ability to make its own laws and policies, while critics point to weaker economic growth, higher trade barriers and reduced opportunities to live and work across Europe.

To mark 10 years since the referendum, the FT asked readers how Brexit has affected them. Hundreds responded, with some feeling the vote delivered what they had hoped for, while others described missed opportunities and being forced to change their plans. The following interviews with six Britons offer a snapshot of the diverse ways Brexit has shaped people’s lives over the past decade.
