MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. urged the public to remain calm as the law enforcement agency implements response measures following the fatal shooting incident at a Tacloban City high school.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to the families affected by these unfortunate incidents. The PNP is here, alongside our partners, to ensure that every school is safe for our youth,” Nartatez said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We ask for calm and understanding as we complete the necessary validation and strengthen our preventive measures,” he noted.
