TACLOBAN CITY — Both minor suspects in the deadly San Jose National High School shooting are now in police custody after a community effort by teachers, students, and parents prevented one from fleeing, while the second later surrendered.

According to Tacloban City Police Director Col. Noelito Getigan, fellow students and parents immediately tackled and restrained the first suspect — a minor — inside the campus until officers arrived.

The second suspect, also a minor, surrendered several hours later and was turned over to authorities by a neighbor who brought him to Police Station 1.
