A Sunni Baluch cleric was summoned and interrogated by the Intelligence Department in Khash after one of his relatives reacted to the desecration and assault of several women who were protesting mining activities and environmental destruction in the Tilouyi region of Taftan County.

According to a report by the Baluchistan Human Rights Documentation Network, on June 21, Molavi Ali Mohammad Salarzehi, a Hadith professor at the Madinat al-Uloom Seminary in Khash, was summoned by the Khash Intelligence Department via phone call to “answer a few questions.”

The report states that after reporting to the Intelligence Department, he was interrogated regarding the issue and questioned by security forces for approximately two hours.

The reason for the cleric’s summons was a reaction by one of his relatives concerning the disrespect and physical assault of several women protesting mining operations and environmental degradation in the Tilouyi area of Taftan County.

As of the publication of this report, the exact details of the questions asked, as well as any potential formal charges against the cleric, have not been released.
