The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday held demonstrations against price rise, new rural job guarantee scheme and recently-introduced labour codes in Puducherry. Demonstrations were held in the town, Bahour and Villianur. Party secretary S. Ramachandran led the protest in front of the office of the Civil Supplies department at Pakkamudiyanpet. Workers raised slogans demanding immediate rollback of petrol and diesel prices. They wanted the government to withdraw the hike imposed on LPG. The workers also demanded that “anti-working” class labour codes be scrapped. Similar protests will be held in Karaikal region soon, the party said. Published - June 23, 2026 07:56 pm IST
