A Mpumalanga police officer could face disciplinary action after a video showing him singing and dancing while wearing an official SAPS uniform circulated widely on social media.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga said it viewed the matter in a serious light, describing the member’s conduct as a violation of the organisation’s policies and Code of Conduct.
“Such conduct is a clear contravention of the policies and Code of Conduct of the SAPS. Members are prohibited from recording videos or content in uniform as that brings the Service into disrepute,” the provincial police management said.
The officer has been identified and departmental processes are under way.
Police management said officers are expected to uphold discipline and professionalism at all times while in uniform and warned that conduct that tarnishes the image of the organisation would not be tolerated.
