The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has issued a directive prohibiting serving officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force from engaging in unauthorised social media activities, including creating videos, live streaming, posting skits, and monetising content on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other similar platforms while identifying themselves as police personnel.
SaharaReporters exclusively obtained the internal circular, dated June 22, 2026, and marked "Restricted – For Official Use Only," which warns that any officer found violating the directive faces severe disciplinary measures, including immediate interdiction, forfeiture of salary, demotion, dismissal from the Force, and possible criminal prosecution.
The document was signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police and classified as "Restricted – For Official Use Only."
The circular, referenced SB:4065/IGP.SEC/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.1/11, was issued from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, and addressed to all Heads of Departments at the Force Headquarters, Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, State Commissioners of Police, the FCT Commissioner of Police, the Commandant of the Police Mobile Force, as well as all Formation and Unit Commanders nationwide.
