Greece is gaining its fifth law school after the Thessaloniki branch of the University of York received certification from the national higher education authority, ETHAAE, to launch a four-year undergraduate law program beginning in October.
The program, titled “Greek Law with Elements of English Law,” will be taught primarily in Greek while incorporating core Common Law courses in English. Graduates will receive a University of York law degree fully recognized by the Greek state, with academic and professional rights equivalent to those conferred by Greek law schools.
Students will also have access to solicitor licensing procedures in England. The program will accept 80 students annually at €12,500 per year, according to York branch director general Yannis Ververidis.
The University of Keele’s Thessaloniki branch is also awaiting ETHAAE approval for its own law program.
