Sandy du Plessis, legal representative for Medicare24 CEO Mike van Wyk, appeared before the Madlanga Commission. Van Wyk did not testify on Monday after his legal team revealed that he had been hospitalised following panic attacks and a psychiatric consultation.

WhatsApp chats, voice notes, and video clips shown to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Monday suggest allegations of drug dealing involving Medicare24 Holdings CEO Michael (Mike) van Wyk, tenderpreneur Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala—who faces attempted murder charges—and an unidentified third person.
Matlala’s Tshwane Medicare24, which is embroiled in a controversial multi-million rand SAPS contract, is a franchise or subsidiary of Van Wyk’s Medicare24 Holdings.
Van Wyk was meant to testify before the Commission on Monday. His attorney, Sandy du Plessis, requested a postponement, saying her client suffered panic attacks and was admitted to hospital on Sunday.
